Bishop da Cunha Letter - MA Abortion Legislation

June 8, 2021

Message from Bishop da Cunha and Regional Bishops-Lifting of Sunday and Holy Day Dispensation

Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., and regional Catholic bishops have together decided to inform the Catholic faithful that the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligation will be lifted on Father's Day, June 19-20.

The bishops saw Father's Day weekend as an appropriate time to encourage Catholic faithful, especially families, to return to the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist, the center of every Catholic life.

The obligation does not apply to those who are ill, recently exposed to COVID-19 or other communicable illnesses, those confined to their homes or other facilities for various reasons, and those who are not able to be vacinated for specific reasons.

The full official release of the bishops' statement will be posted on The Anchor website at anchornews.org and the diocesan website, fallriverdiocese.org.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Places of Worship Update in Regards to Governor's Announcement 5/17/2021

Many of you have been asking how the places of worship fall into the Governor's plan to reopen Massachusetts.  The places of worship fall under a completely different category.  All of our mandates stay the same until further determination comes down from our state department.

Mass reservations scheduling will also remain the same as well.  We do our utmost to comply with state legislation and try our best to reserve seats for all who wish to attend.  Please note, that if you have made a reservation, but later find out that you can't attend, please notify the respective rectory office, so that we may be able to accommodate others who wish to come to Mass.  As more people become vaccinated they are more comfortable returning to Mass, so your cooperation regarding the importance of notifying us, if you will not attend, is  now more critical than ever.

You may view the above stated mandates in their entirety at:
